Chapter sixteen

Jamie stood atop a lunar landscape, noting the extensive Amialee mining operation at work. This star system was not populated but held several mining operations, taking advantage of the valuable resources. This particular base was one of the few places where Thavmatium could be mined. Thavmatium was a rare mineral that made much of the advancements the Amialee and Skeelat enjoyed possible. Its unique properties powered their starship engines as well as their mighty energy weapons and shields. It had civilian uses, too, and powered entire continents on all Amialee, Skeelat, and Kathik planets. Just the knowledge of this mineral’s existence and potential would catapult humankind at least a hundred years into the future. Finding it would definitely be a priority on their return to the Milky Way.

He noted the military installations located here, too. They were primarily anti-orbital weapons that utilized the powerful energy weapons he had already seen during his time in this galaxy. There were also a couple of ships above, keeping a watchful eye on things. A few other warships protected the other mining outposts in this system. These could jump to any location in seconds to provide additional support if needed. Jamie knew much of this without needing to verify by visiting the other locations. Was this an evolution of his abilities? He wasn’t sure. What he did know was that this time was not too far into the future and he was here due to a bit of intuition.

In the past, he had visited events in the future without really knowing why or how he ended up there. It just seemed to happen. Then, with the Antikitheri’s guidance and some practice, he was able to target a moment in the future to better understand what was going to happen. This, however, was something different. He did not know this galaxy and knew very little about the civilizations here. His goal had been to help the Amialee against the Skeelat, but he had no real idea of where to begin. He always had the option of spying on the future and trying to uncover what the Skeelat were up to, but this was different. When he thought about what he needed to do, something he couldn’t explain pulled him to this time and location. Then, upon arrival, he simply knew what was there.

No one had explained Thavmatium to him, for example. Nor had they told him about this star system or this outpost. He just knew. What he didn’t know was why he had been drawn here, but he expected to find out soon enough. When he saw the flashes in space, he got his answer. With a thought, he appeared in space, floating above the moon he stood on mere moments ago and in front of a Skeelat attack force. The Amialee ships defending the moon were woefully outnumbered, and even with the other Amialee warships jumping in to help, the odds remained against them.

The ground batteries helped somewhat as they opened fire on the Skeelat with great blasts of energy.
